A collaboration between wine maker, John Patterson and sommelier, David LeClaire Big Smooth & Big Daddy red wines are delicious, enticing and affordable. David believes what people want is very simple: Rich, smooth, interesting wine that exceeds your expectations at a very reasonable price. With the economy slowing, sales of ultra-premium wines are declining dramatically. Yet wine enthusiasts still want their wine. So why not give them something that will blow their mind for a moderate price? Even though both wines are a hand-made, boutique wine limited to 150 cases each , our intention is to sell them for only $17.95 to prove it’s possible to deliver a fantastic experience without charging a fortune.

Big Smooth & Big Daddy are both 75% Syrah from the Red Willow Vineyard, from some of the oldest Syrah blocks in Washington State made famous by David Lake years ago, blended with 25% Cabernet from Milbrandt Vineyards close to Vantage in Eastern Washington. Big Daddy was left in oak for 3 additional months, giving it a hint of dusty tannins in the finish.

David LeClaire felt that Syrah can often be just a little too smooth and often needs a bit more backbone and structure. So while we wanted to preserve the silky nature of this wine, we wanted to balance the wine and add more complexity with the addition of the Cabernet. We think you’ll agree this wine truly can be enjoyed now but will age gracefully as it has just a touch of soft tannins.
